Devlog 11 - Beta Version 2


Beta Version 2

We updated the beta build in preparation for the playtest session at Zynga Studios. This was an incredible opportunity and we wanted to incorporate the feedback we got from the initial beta release into this build. 

The full list of changes include:

  • The tutorial now will highlight the different UI elements to pull the player's attention to them.
  • When pressing the skip button, another screen asking the player to confirm this decision will appear to avoid players accidentally skipping the tutorial.
  • The tutorial now fades to black when it is completed or skipped for a smoother transition to the fight scene.
  • Health power ups now appear throughout the arena once the boss enters the second phase. Standing on these tiles will allow the player to heal up for a small amount depending on the difficulty setting.
  • Movement restraint is now removed. Players were saying that it felt bad to be locked in place when moving off beat. Even if spamming isn't optimal, the movement restraint felt unintuitive and so it was removed.
  • Camera shake added when player moves off beat, to provide the players with feedback.
  • The turret indicators are now improved. The tiles that the bullets will travel along will light up. 
  • The slam attack has been buffed so that it now covers three columns instead of one.
  • The hazard attack has improved animations so it now flies from the center of the boss.
  • An extreme difficulty setting has been added for skilled players who really enjoy a challenge.
  • Boss animations have been updated. There is now an idle resting animation, idle combat animation, a phase transition animation, and a hit animation.
  • The player weapon placeholder has been updated to be a wrench. There is also a sparks effect that happens when the player hits the boss. 
  • Additionally, the boss also flashes white when hit.
  • Materials of sniper bullet, environment floor, and arena have been adjusted to stand out more.
  • The tutorial/intro music has been updated to have a more distinct beat.
  • A new main menu sound track has been added.
  • Resolved some bugs regarding performance and mechanics in the game.
