Devlog 6 - Playtest Version 1


Playtest at OCAD

The first playtest session we had was in class at OCAD. We made a lot of changes by this playtest which were aimed at improving the mechanics, aesthetics, and user experience. 

The full list of changes include:

  • Improved menu designs
  • Ambient background noises
  • Option for players to choose FPS cap
  • Completed end loops where a defeat screen appears when the player runs out of health, and a victory screen appears when the boss runs out of health
  • Intro cutscene before boss fight, and end cutscene when boss is defeated
  • New boss attacks: a steam attack that affects the 2 inner rings, a spike attack that affects a column, and a rotating bullet attack.
  • Text indicators for the attacks (temporary)
  • Floor indicators for steam attack and spike attack
  • Shader material that applies hatch lines to represent shadows, creating a pen drawing appearance
  • More environmental assets
  • Player hurt sound effects
  • Second boss phase where music becomes faster and boss attacks are more frequent
