Devlog 8 - Playtest Version 3


Playtest with Ubisoft

This playtest session took place in a virtual meeting with representatives from Ubisoft. We've had more time since our last playtest session to refine the build and tackle some of the feedback that we got, as well as changing the shader style again to make the game lean more into the patent drawing aesthetic.

The full list of changes include:

  • Fixed the "quit" button on the main menu since it was stretched weirdly.
  • Added difficulty parameters to allow players to choose depending on their skill level. An issue that we kept running into was some play testers thought the game was too hard, while others appreciated the challenge and felt like the difficulty was crucial in making the gameplay feel rewarding. 
  • Added a tutorial scene to help players learn the mechanics. An issue with the previous build was that there was a lack of a tutorial, which meant players were extremely confused. Additionally, since our intended way of playing the game is using a controller, the UI instructions are currently tailored for users on PlayStation controllers.
  • Changed the shader materials to make the visual aesthetic more like patent drawings.
  • Added idle boss animation.
  • Added more sound tracks that layer on top of the main sound track. These are enabled at different health thresholds, allowing the music to feel dynamic.
  • Victory and defeat screens now overlay over the scene with the factory background assets, instead of an empty scene. 
  • The victory and defeat screens now also have the option to return to the main menu, instead of starting over in the scene.
