Devlog 7 - Playtest Version 2

The second playtest session we had was only a few days after the first, but we had made a couple of changes based on the feedback we got from the first playtest session. 

The full list of changes include:

  • The options button on the main menu is fixed to be centered
  • A credits and quit button are added to the main menu (currently credits does not have an interface)
  • Sound effect added when hovering over buttons in menus
  • Shader materials were adjusted to make the factory darker
  • HP bars were replaced with custom designs that add a sketch border to match the style of the shaders
  • Labels were included over the HP bars
  • HP bars are also now represented by two bars that are visible at the start, instead of one appearing after the first runs out. It's frustrating to have hidden health bars and players would feel less cheated if they can see all the health from the get go.
  • Boss does not attack the player immediately. Instead it only attacks when the player hits the boss
  • State machine was adjusted so that not all attacks are enabled in the beginning. Instead, they activate at different HP thresholds. 
  • Steam attack now does more damage and also pushes the player back if it hits them. In the previous version, players could just take the steam attack damage and ignore it while continuously hitting the boss. Since the steam attack was intentionally added to prevent players from spamming the boss, this was a major issue.
  • The player model's scale was increased so that the size difference wasn't as drastic.
  • Added emissive material to the bullets for visual clarity. Otherwise, it can be hard to see.
