Devlog 1 (Design) - Boss Design


The first boss of our game is a large tour bus. The fun yet challenging thing about having a bus as the boss is coming up with mechanics and attacks that make sense for its character. 

When thinking of a bus in real life, the biggest threat it gives is that it is large and fast, and can run you over. We use this as our first attack type where the bus charges at Lucy, attempting to run them over. 


For the second attack type, we wanted to take advantage of not just the fact that the boss is a bus, but especially the unique design of our boss' concept art. The spikes on the wheels originated as a stylistic nod towards punk and grunge fashion pieces such as spiked accessories.  This works perfectly for inspiring the idea of having those spikes sent out as projectiles towards Lucy.

In general, we strived for a variety of attack types (such as above, where we have a melee attack and a ranged attack) to keep the battle interesting and varied. The different attack types also help to force the player to move around the battle space instead of remaining stationary.
